Game Consoles

The video game console is one of the top entertainment choices of people of all ages with millions of people around the world buying new game consoles every year.

The top manufacturers of today’s game consoles are Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony. These companies are continually striving to bring the consumer the best gaming experience possible. Due to the constant changes in the various game consoles, it is important to find out as much as possible about each game system, before you decide which one is right for you.

History of the Game Console

In 1972, Magnavox released the first game console; the Magnavox Odyssey did not seem to take hold with the public, and it was not until Atari released Pong that video gaming began to grow in popularity.

These game consoles belonged to the first generation gaming systems, and would eventually include advanced versions of the consoles, such as the Odyssey 100, and Odyssey 200.

The second generation of game consoles included those that focused on slightly more sophisticated games, such as Atari’s Space Invaders, but the third generation of consoles would include release of the Nintendo, and the popular Super Mario Brothers.

From the third generation until the current generation, the game console has continued to get more sophisticated, adding incredible graphic quality, and capabilities that would not even have been conceivable with the first generation game systems.

Some of the great game consoles of the last generation of game systems include Wii consoles, the PS3 consoles, as well as the Xbox consoles.

The new generation of game console not only plays video games, but they also have the capability of playing DVDs, and some can even play Blu-ray disks. The technology of game consoles has come a long way since 1972. Now it is even possible to use motion as a form of input, and all new generation game consoles feature wireless controllers.

How to Decide on a Game Console

Cost

The foremost game consoles include the Nintendo systems, Playstation, and the Xbox; each of these game consoles has their pros and cons. When choosing a game console there are several things you’ll want to consider.

Price is always an important factor when choosing one of the new game consoles. When looking at the different systems, decide ahead of time how much money you want to spend on a new system.

The PS3 consoles are often the most expensive, and can cost upwards of $200. The Xbox consoles are slightly more reasonable in price, and the Wii consoles are probably the least expensive out of the lineup.

Who is the Game Console For?

This will be another deciding factor in which game system you choose. All of the different consoles have various games for them; while some of these systems offer games that are very violent in nature, some are more family friendly. By far, the Nintendo Wii system is the most family friendly.

How Do You Play Games?

Each game console has its enhancements in various areas; for example, the Wii consoles feature an exciting kinesthetic experience, and the controllers permits the gamer a lot of interactive movement while playing. This is a good system for those people who enjoy a lot of interaction with their game play.

The PS3 consoles offer an eye toy accessory, as well as a variety of games that make use of accessories such as dance pads. For a little less flash or activity, you can choose one of the Xbox consoles that do offer games that use steering wheels, but not a whole lot of other extras.

What Type of Games Do You Want to Play?

Each of these game consoles play a wide array of games, but each one of them do have a particular type of game that they seem to specialize in.

The Playstation is a very good system for those who prefer to indulge in role-playing games; where the Xbox consoles are great for online gaming, and the Nintendo Wii consoles are usually preferred for group game playing.

Game Console Accessories

Another major consideration when choosing a game system is the accessories that you will have to purchase to go with your new game console. Some game systems may require you to purchase an extra hard drive, and still others will require that you pay for a subscription in order to take advantage of the online extras.

Before purchasing your game console, research each one to find out what extra accessories are available for the system, and also what the final cost will be when you combine the expense of the system itself, as well as all accessories.

The Newest Generation Game Console

Another thing you will want to keep in mind when choosing a game console would be to consider if it would be in your best interest to purchase the newest generation release of a particular system. The latest released systems from Nintendo, Playstation, and Xbox all have extras to offer, but not always are these extras worth the additional cost, depending on what you are looking for.

If an older version is still on the market at a much lower price, it may be worth looking into that game console, as apposed to the newest generation. You may not be giving up a lot, but you could save a great deal of money.

On the other hand, if you want the best technology available for gaming, the newest released systems are usually your best choice.

Shop Around

When you are out to purchase a new game console, you’ll want to do some shopping around. Often you can find great deals online, as well as some retailers offering package deals. This is one way to acquire games for your system, as well as some accessories.

The Cost and Availability of Games

Each game console has a large variety of games, so once you decide on a system it is a good idea to check and see which games are available for that system; usually the more games, the better. You may also want to purchase a system that has the ability to play games that were manufactured for the older versions. This can be important when you are upgrading to a newer system.

No matter which game console you choose; you are sure to get plenty of enjoyment out of your new system.

Pachter advises that the cost of the PSP Go is currently too high

October 26th, 2009 by Richard

It is unlikely there will be any kind of significant different in sales figure after the release of the Sony PSP Go as it is currently too costly and this means that the handheld device from Sony will not have a big impact in sales according to an analyst from Wedbush Morgan, Michael Pachter.

In order for the handheld system from Sony to reach its full potential there would need to be a price cut on the PSP Go he advised saying “The Go is just priced too high for the perceived value. It may play music and movies, but most think iPod Nano (149 USD) or Touch (199 USD) for that, and it is very expensive for a portable gaming device. I don’t see it boosting overall sales, and without a price cut, 3000 sales are likely to be down year-over-year.”
