» 2009 sees the Wii, PS3 and the DS all being outsold by the XBOX360

Based on the latest figures released recently the XBOX360 has managed to outsell the Sony PS3, the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo DS systems so far in 2009.

The latest Gfk Chart-Track figure that have been put together by Gamezine.co.uk have shown that between late January and the end of June 2009 the XBOX360 has sold significantly more units that any of its rival Sony and Nintendo systems.

During this period of time the Microsoft XBOX360 has sold a total of 600 000 units in the UK compared to 300 000 Nintendo Wii units, 300 000 Sony PS3 units, 100 000 Sony PSP units and a combined total of 400 000 Nintendo DS and DSi units.

Over the lifetime of the consoles, however, the Nintendo Wii is still the best-selling home console on the market and the Nintendo DS and DSi are currently the largest selling systems during their lifetime compared to all the other systems.

The Nintendo DS and DSi have sold a total of 9.4 Million units since their release, the Nintendo Wii has sold 5.4 Million, the XBOX360 sold 3.9 million, the Sony PSP has sold 3.3 million and the Sony PS3 has sold 2.2 million making it the lowest selling console on the market and also the biggest loss maker per console sold.

Following the recent E3 event in the US all three Console makers have announced a number of interest new extras for their consoles which means that although the market slowdown because of the current recession that is effecting all the console manufacturers there is still a good chance that they could all be getting a significant boost throughout 2009 as they release a new range of devices to complement their existing console units.
