» Price and Size reduction of the PS3

A recent announcement by Sony that it will not be reducing the price of its current PS3 consoles but will instead be releasing a new and much cheaper PS3 slim for those users looking a more affordable solution to getting a PS3.

It would seem for many users that the Sony Playstation 3 is worlds apart from its rival Xbox 360 console, which offers much more in terms of gaming and this is odd when the vastly superior hardware in the PS3 is considered.

The quality of the PS3’s internal hardware is also far higher than that of the Xbox 360 console and this has even been proven following the recent console failure rates, which showed that the PS3 console currently has a 10 percent failure rate compared to the 50 percent failure rate on the Xbox 360. Another huge bonus with the PS3 is that it includes a Blu ray player and although this may have been an issue when HD-DVD was on the table as the possible next-generation of media storage it has now become a key reason for many users buying the console.

The biggest concern for many users when decide whether to buy a PS3, an Xbox 360 or a Wii has always been the price and for the Sony it has been the high price that has lost it the most sales.

Although this has been a long time coming for many consumers, Sony have now decided to do something about it by introducing the PS3 Slim, which is a new and cheaper version of the PS3 console. This means that the prices of the current range of PS3 consoles will remain the same but consumers will now have a lower price alternative available.

The price reduction for the new PS3 Slim units is about $100, which will give it a UK price of £249.99 and a US price of $299.
