With a huge increase in the amount of speculation currently circulating with regards to the new updated console that will be called the PS3 Slim it is believed that Sony are now on the verge of announcing its release.
The possible existence of a new slimmer version of the Sony PS3 has been talked about on the internet for more than a year now, although the very short-lived announcement of the PS3 ‘console slim’, before it was removed entirely, appeared on the Amazon.de website.
A huge rise in the number of PS3 components being ordered, with enough parts to build a million PS3 consoles over the next quarter, was reported by DigiTimes, the Taiwanese newspaper for the tech industry, which is just one of the many sources that now seem to be confirming the rumours of the new console’s imminent announcement.
Even with its high specifications and Blu ray playing capabilities, the demand for the PS3 has so far been quite low and many blame the current economic climate for this. It is, however, believed that with Christmas drawing near Sony’s sales expectations will have been raised and the best method of selling a larger number of units will be through a redesigned games console.
The release of the new PS3 Slim console will hopefully come with a significant drop in price, which is expected to add to its popularity and resolve what is currently the biggest issue with Sony’s PS3 consoles.
The price cut is set to be made on the 40GB version of its new PS3 slim console and will cost customers £260, although the 80GB version will still cost the same amount.
All the speculation on the release of the Sony PS3 at the moment mean nothing without and official announcement though, and it is thought that Sony will be unveiling its redesigned console at the European games expo, GamesCom.
