» Sony has to decide for itself when to cut its PS3 price say EA

A warning that support for the Playstation 3 may soon cease unless Sony reduces the price of its console has been given by the CEO of Activision, Bobby Kotick, although Sony CEO, Howard Stringer has said that Kotick “just likes to make a lot of noise” and industry analysts have said that it is just a lot of hot air.

The latest statement from Activision has, however, seen a number of publishers and developers appearing to offer their support for the Sony PS3 including games publisher EA, who decided not to make any comment on the arguments between Activision and Sony.

In a recent conversation with a popular gaming website the head of EA UK, Keith Ramsdale said that while he in no way agreed with the comments from Kotick he also thought that Activision was “free to make whatever comment they choose to make.”

He went on to add “As it stands the installed base of 360, PS3 and Wii, just talk about the home consoles, is a significant base. We’re interested in the projection parts, as to where we put our development, and as it stands today they’re all three very viable platforms.”

Many industry experts have expressed their lack of concern in the comments make by Activision and believe that the publisher merely wants Sony to reduce the price of its console so their games don’t seem too expensive as this year sees a number of high-priced games being released throughout this year.

When commenting on the PS3 price reduction Ramsdale said “It’s interesting for a publisher and a developer for the installed base of any format to grow as quickly as it can, but it’s got to be a sustained business. So, is it in our interest that the installed base of hardware increases? Yeah, of course it is. Sony is the one that has to manage its own business… it has to be Sony’s decision.”
