The recent hype building up to the announcement of the new Sony PS3 Slim has got thousands of users desperate to pre-order the console from online retailers throughout the country and could make the new console massively popular in the run up to Christmas.
The Playstation 3 Slimline is currently being offer for just under £230 by online retailers Simplygames and Shopto as they fight to be the cheapest sellers of the new Sony console.
Both companies are currently offering to only take payment once the consoles are actually shipped, although at the moment only Shopto is offering guaranteed delivery for 1st September 2009 and is also offering consumers free delivery.
In the UK and US gaming console category on Amazon the console is already at the top of the charts with just a few days to go before the chart closes. Part of a £6 million campaign in the UK by Sony has seen an advert for the new PS3 Slim console appear on the highly popular YouTube.
The popular online repair and parts site, iFixit somehow managed to get their hands on a PS3 Slim console recently and proceeded to take it apart to get the internal specifications.
Inside the new super-slim case they found a mainboard containing the usual cell and an RSX Reality Synthesiser, a large-slot Blu ray player, a 120GB 5400rpm 2.5” SATA hard disk drive and a 95mm internal fan.
A popular IT news site commented saying “The PS3 Slim is a glorious piece of technology, we knew that already; what we don’t know whether the £82 million campaign (that’s roughly equivalent to 300,000 PS3 sold) will be sufficient to encourage people to buy PS3 Slim AND games.”
