The new official ad for the PS3 Slim comes with a price drop to £230

The recent hype building up to the announcement of the new Sony PS3 Slim has got thousands of users desperate to pre-order the console from online retailers throughout the country and could make the new console massively popular in the run up to Christmas.

The Playstation 3 Slimline is currently being offer for just under £230 by online retailers Simplygames and Shopto as they fight to be the cheapest sellers of the new Sony console.

Price and Size reduction of the PS3

A recent announcement by Sony that it will not be reducing the price of its current PS3 consoles but will instead be releasing a new and much cheaper PS3 slim for those users looking a more affordable solution to getting a PS3.

It would seem for many users that the Sony Playstation 3 is worlds apart from its rival Xbox 360 console, which offers much more in terms of gaming and this is odd when the vastly superior hardware in the PS3 is considered.

Rumours over Sony’s decision to clear PS3 stock

Following the decision by technology giant Sony to clear PS3 stock from the shelves rumours have been sparked that there may soon be an announcement regarding a new Sony console that could be ready to hit the shelves and replace the PS3.

It was recently reported that technology giant Sony has told retailers that they should not expect any further deliveries of the Sony PS3 until next month, and to clear the stock that is remaining on the shelves. Games retailers have been told simply to get rid of the stock on the shelves and that it will be September before any further shipments of the PS3 will be received, according to recent reports.

Production of the PS3 Slim to be increased by Sony

With a huge increase in the amount of speculation currently circulating with regards to the new updated console that will be called the PS3 Slim it is believed that Sony are now on the verge of announcing its release.

The possible existence of a new slimmer version of the Sony PS3 has been talked about on the internet for more than a year now, although the very short-lived announcement of the PS3 ‘console slim’, before it was removed entirely, appeared on the Amazon.de website.

Significant reduction in the cost to produce the PS3 announced

Since the release of the Sony Playstation 3 in 2006 the losses suffered by Sony have been considerable due to the build costs of the Sony console, although now the equipment manufacturer has announce that it has now drastically cut the cost of building the PS3 unit.

The production costs that are involved in the building of the PS3 have been significantly reduced since their initial release back in 2006, according to the latest news from Sony.

Console owners could see the cost of games increasing

Whilst a rising number of people are relying on their consoles for entertainment in the current financial climate there are rumours that the price of games for many consoles could start increasing this year.

In the current financial climate a rising number of households have found it more and more financially unviable to go our and socialise in order to enjoy some entertainment, and many have cut back on going out for drinks, going to the cinema, going for meals, and enjoying the local nightlife simply because of the costs involved in many of these activities.

Sony has to decide for itself when to cut its PS3 price say EA

A warning that support for the Playstation 3 may soon cease unless Sony reduces the price of its console has been given by the CEO of Activision, Bobby Kotick, although Sony CEO, Howard Stringer has said that Kotick “just likes to make a lot of noise” and industry analysts have said that it is just a lot of hot air.

The latest statement from Activision has, however, seen a number of publishers and developers appearing to offer their support for the Sony PS3 including games publisher EA, who decided not to make any comment on the arguments between Activision and Sony.

Motion systems for the Xbox 360 and PS3 get Nintendo’s response

Following the announcement by Microsoft of the new Project Natal system for the Xbox 360 and the new wand for the Sony PS3 that bears a striking resemblance to the Wiimote motion controller, Nintendo have responded say that the two company’s are merely taking advantage of a feature that made the Wii as popular as it is now.

The E3 gaming Expo held in Los Angeles in June saw Sony producing a Motion controller device similar to that of the Nintendo Wii and Microsoft announce its new project Natal system. Nintendo have said that in order to avoid being left behind it will continue to offer its gamers increasingly immersive experiences.

2009 sees the Wii, PS3 and the DS all being outsold by the XBOX360

Based on the latest figures released recently the XBOX360 has managed to outsell the Sony PS3, the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo DS systems so far in 2009.

The latest Gfk Chart-Track figure that have been put together by Gamezine.co.uk have shown that between late January and the end of June 2009 the XBOX360 has sold significantly more units that any of its rival Sony and Nintendo systems.

Prisoners no longer able to use PS3 inside

It has recently been reported that inmates at a UK prison have lost the right to use PS3 consoles over fears of hatching escape plans through the system’s WiFi features, but the Ministry of Justice claims that they never had these rights in the first place.

It was recently reported that fears over escape plans being hatched had resulted in inmates from one prison losing access to their games consoles. The inmates at Rye Hill Prison were said that have lost the right to use Playstation 3 consoles because there were fears that they were using the WiFi feature of the system to contact people on the outside, thus increasing the chances of them hatching escape plans.
