PS3 price could come down in August

It has been claimed in a recent report that the price of the Sony PS3 could come down later this year, although some industry experts are disappointed that it has not done so already.

In the current economic and financial climate most people cannot afford luxuries such as games consoles to entertain themselves and their families at home, and many people were disappointed at the high price of the Sony PS3. Even some industry experts from the gaming industry have been calling for price cuts on this console, and many were surprised that a price cut was not announced at E3 2009.

Sony launches PSP Go console

Despite the recession many gaming enthusiasts will be raring to get to the shops as a result of Sony releasing its new PSP Go console, the latest version of the Playstation Portable.

Since it was launched the Sony PSP, or Playstation Portable, has enjoyed great success amongst gaming enthusiasts across the UK. However, consumers now have another treat in store, and parents all around the country will be trying desperately to hang on to their cash, as the launch of the latest version of the PSP has kids – and adults – everywhere trying to get their hands on the new console.

Online TV service using Sky Player to be provided by Microsoft Xbox 360

The Xbox 360 will soon be home to a wide array of new live and on-demand TV services courtesy of an agreement that will allow Sky Player to be accessed by users over their Xbox Live service.

An agreement between BSkyB and Microsoft will see all Microsoft Xbox Live users gaining access to a huge range of TV services through Sky Player like entertainment shows, films, Sky Sports, documentaries and children’s shows, and will be available to users by August this year.

Is the war being lost by DS pirates?

The sales of Nintendo DS games were seriously impacted by the popularity of R4 cards and other similar piracy devices according to information released in July last year by MCV.

eBay, Simplygames.com and Amazon were the three major retailers that highlighted as providing a direct channel for consumers to buy these harmful cartridges, although that fact that Nintendo were ‘monitoring the situation’ was all that it could say.

Twenty five percent of UK homes have a games console

The results of a recent study have indicated that around twenty five percent of households in the UK now have a games console, as consumers take advantage of lower prices and try to find in-house entertainment to save money on going out.

A recent study that was carried out involving polling two thousand UK residents has indicated that around twenty five percent of households in the UK now have a games console. The study, which was called Fast Forward, was carried out by Harris Interactive, and the respondents were questioned in November of last year and then again in February of this year.

Rumours of new Sony PSP GO! Console

A story started by a popular web blog with regards to the new Sony PSP 4000 has now been picked up by the Internet rumour mill following a podcast that was recently loaded and then suddenly removed, which points to the new PSP having been seen, although many believe that if this were true the information was suppose to be kept secret.

Rather than keeping the model name of PSP 4000 as Sony had named it, the latest claims seem to point towards the name of the new unit being called the Sony PSP Go! Console.

Co-operation by Nintendo sees it price-fixing fine reduced on appeal

Fines levied for market fixing by the games console manufacturer Nintendo and its distributers back in 2002 have had their fines reduced by a European Union court.

The co-operation given to the investigation by the companies was the reason given for its ruling that there should be a reduction in most of the fines that were given.

Game Group sees profits soar over twelve months

Console and gaming retailer Game Group has reported soaring sales and profits over the last twelve months, with a number of factors thought to have attributed to its increased success.

Although most people would think that in the current financial climate and recession sales and profits would be down for retailers such as Game Group, which specialises in gaming consoles and games, it has actually had quite the opposite effect, with Game Group reporting soaring profits in the twelve months leading to January.

The UK sees a £20 increased in Wii prices

A rise in the current price of the Nintendo Wii looks to be going ahead at one of the UK’s main games retailer, Gamestation.

The recent increase in the price of Wiis by Nintendo of up to £20, which is reflected by the rising strength of the Yen over the pound sterling, was report recently. Whether or not retailers would pass on this increase in price to the customer was, at that time, uncertain although now signs of the rise in cost to the customer are now being seen for the first time.

Nintendo DSi sales take off following UK launch

Following its launch in the UK earlier this month sales of the Nintendo DSi have taken off, with nearly 100,000 unites sold within its first week.

Earlier this month gaming giant Nintendo released yet another new offering in the UK for gamers to get their hands on in the form of the Nintendo DSi. Recently released figures have shown that sales of the Nintendo DS1 during the first few days was strong, with nearly one hundred thousand units being sold by retailers across the UK, despite the recession and the credit crunch.
