Following its launch in the UK earlier this month sales of the Nintendo DSi have taken off, with nearly 100,000 unites sold within its first week.

Earlier this month gaming giant Nintendo released yet another new offering in the UK for gamers to get their hands on in the form of the Nintendo DSi. Recently released figures have shown that sales of the Nintendo DS1 during the first few days was strong, with nearly one hundred thousand units being sold by retailers across the UK, despite the recession and the credit crunch.

According to a recent report this has put the Nintendo DSi in fourth place in terms of all time fastest selling consoles in the UK. There is a chance that were it not for the fact that the recession and credit crunch are affecting consumer spending sales levels would have been higher, and the Nintendo DSi may have taken a higher position than fourth.

First place in the fastest selling console sales is taken by the Sony PSP, which managed to shift nearly one hundred and ninety thousand units during its first week back in 2005. Second place in the polls goes to the Sony PS3, which sold one hundred and sixty five thousand units in its first week of release in the UK. Nintendo takes third place, with the Nintendo Wii, which sold one hundred and six thousand units during its first week of release in the UK.

An official from Nintendo said that whilst the DSi had only taken fourth place, it had still produced impressive sales figures given the current financial climate. He added that the ongoing Easter holidays could help to keep sales figures for Nintendo strong.
