The Xbox 360 will soon be home to a wide array of new live and on-demand TV services courtesy of an agreement that will allow Sky Player to be accessed by users over their Xbox Live service.
An agreement between BSkyB and Microsoft will see all Microsoft Xbox Live users gaining access to a huge range of TV services through Sky Player like entertainment shows, films, Sky Sports, documentaries and children’s shows, and will be available to users by August this year.
No indication has been given so far as to the pricing structure or subscription charges, a range of both on-demand and live channels will be made available the recent agreement made between Microsoft and the Pay-TV group, BSkyB, although compared to the Sky TV service there will be significantly less channels made available to user over Xbox Live.
With the use of the Xbox live interactive service users will now for the first time ever be able to use their broadband connection to communicate with each other in real-time, which means that users will be able to chat whilst watching their favourite show or movie.
A range of on-demand services will be included in this new offering which will also allow users to get the latest sporting fixtures, check the news and much more, all through the new online TV service proposal on their Xbox 360.
The head of X-Box UK and Ireland, Neil Thompson spoke regarding what the first live programming to be made available to users on the console would be saying “Our customers have told us that they want the opportunity to use their consoles as a way to access TV and once again Xbox has pulled off an entertainment first with amazing content and rich entertainment experience.”
