Despite the recession many gaming enthusiasts will be raring to get to the shops as a result of Sony releasing its new PSP Go console, the latest version of the Playstation Portable.

Since it was launched the Sony PSP, or Playstation Portable, has enjoyed great success amongst gaming enthusiasts across the UK. However, consumers now have another treat in store, and parents all around the country will be trying desperately to hang on to their cash, as the launch of the latest version of the PSP has kids – and adults – everywhere trying to get their hands on the new console.

The new version of the Playstation Portable is the PSP Go, and this was launched at the E3 Conference in the United States. However, when it was unveiled it did not come as any surprise, as information and pictures had already been leaked about the new console a week before it was unveiled at the conference.

Previous PSP models had a disc based UMD format, but the new PSP Go does not have this. Instead, games and moves can be directly downloaded to the system from the Sony Playstation store. The PSP Go will also boast increased portability, as it is said to be around fifty percent smaller and around forty percent lighter than the traditional PSP console. A mobile phone type sliding action on the console will allow the button to be hidden behind a screen when the console is not being used.

The PSP Go is not designed to replace the current version of the console, according to Sony officials, but is aimed at being sold alongside it and complementing it. The sale of the traditional UMD games for discs will continue. The PSP Go will be available from the start of October, and is likely to retail at around £250.
