The results of a recent study have indicated that around twenty five percent of households in the UK now have a games console, as consumers take advantage of lower prices and try to find in-house entertainment to save money on going out.

A recent study that was carried out involving polling two thousand UK residents has indicated that around twenty five percent of households in the UK now have a games console. The study, which was called Fast Forward, was carried out by Harris Interactive, and the respondents were questioned in November of last year and then again in February of this year.

According to the results in the period between the two lots of questioning the number of households that had games consoles increased, and now standard at around one quarter of all households. It is thought that there are a couple of main reasons why there has been an increase in the number of households that have a games console.

The first reason behind the increase in the number of UK homes with consoles is the fact that retailers and manufacturers have been forced to slash the prices of consoles as a result of the recession, and in order to increase custom and beat off rivals many have cut their prices significantly, enabling games enthusiasts to pick up a bargain. Another major reason behind the increase in consoles is thought to be the fact that in the current financial climate many people cannot afford to go out, and therefore are looking to find something to keep them entertained at home.

In a separate study many parents said that entertainment such as games consoles were helping to bring their families together, as they played games on the console as a family rather than alone. This, coupled with the fact that the consoles provide affordable entertainment in the current financial crisis, has seen a sharp rise in the number of homes with new or second hand consoles.
